Week of April 4, 2011: COW "God's Word helps me grow"

This week we did the letter "C". We counted up to 42 and A~ read her first full sentences.

We also took a field trip to Maymont. We had a picnic and then walked through the petting Zoo. We learned about "Cows" before we went. We learned that Cows can smell up to 5 miles away, they have 4 stomachs, and they chew their cud for over 8 hours a day!! We talked about what foods we get from cows like, milk, yogurt, cheese, and butter. Then at our picnic we got to taste some of those foods! We learned how good for us milk was and how the bible is like milk for our souls. We can nourish our spirits with spending time with God daily, and it helps us to grow!

March 28, 2011: INSECT "I am a wise child, so I work hard."

So we started out our lesson today with the letter "I". I is for insect, igloo, itch, inch, and inch-worm. We colored our I books and cut them out.

Then we practiced tracing and writing the letter "I" and "i" and S~ Colored pictures while A~ finished her handwriting.

Then we did a review of all the letters we've covered so far. We played the game "touch the letter that starts the word....."

Then a few weeks ago we received our ants in the mail for our ant farm. We set up the farm by putting sand in the back of it. The sand was solid with no tunnels as you can see, then poured in the ants. We fed them two drops of water, and a little piece of fruit every 3 days. We had 50 worker ants. Over the course of 4 weeks or so they all gradually died, but they left us something amazing to remember them by.

So today as we learned about "Insects" we took a look at our ants. Even though they were all gone now, we learned about how hard ants worked and we took a look at all the tunnels they worked so hard to make in the sand. We learned that ants only live about 45-60 days, they have two stomaches: 1 for eating, and 1 for storing food to share with friends. Each colony of ants has a Queen and her job is to lay eggs. They use their antennae to touch, and smell things, and they can hold 20x their body weight.

Then we learned about the "insect predator" The Lady Bug. We learned that the lady bug eats harmful insects that destroy plants. So then we did a little bit of finger painting and made our own lady bugs!

January 16, 2011: GOAT "Jesus died for my sins"

So I'm WAY behind on posting this one. And on school. We've taken like a month in a half break but we are back at it!! Here are some photos from our GOAT lesson so you can catch up!

January 12, 2011: WATER "Jesus gives my spirit living water to drink"

Today we started out with our ABC song, and then our sound song...."a-a- apple, b-b-butterly...etc"

Then A~ did her english lesson. We cut out the words Dad, Dads, mom, and moms and learned that mom = 1 mom and moms = more than 1 mom. While A~ did that S~ worked on the ABC puzzle.

Then we continued our lesson about "Water" we talked about how Water when it is a liquid, has no shape of it's own. If it is poured into different containers the water becomes the shape of the container it is in! Then we took a few pennies and talked about how they were round and solid. If they are poured into a square container they stay round.

So then we poured the water in a pan and let it heat up on the stove and watched it turn into gas!

January 11, 2011: WATER: "Jesus gives my spirit living water to drink."

Today we learned about the letter "W" for Water. A~ practiced writing the letter "W" and "w" and the number "10".

While A~ did that mommy & S~ played the ABC game where she tells me what the letters are. Then the ones she still can't recognize we use the leapfrog for.

A~ did her English lesson, and was able to sound out and read all the words on her worksheet! Then I would say "Circle the word TOM, or underline the word DAD" and she would find the word that way.

Then we played the game "touch the letter that starts the word....November, wait, October" etc... This was to review the letters that we've already learned this school year.

So then we started our lesson on "WATER" I gave each of the girls 3 crackers and told them to eat up. I then made a huge cup of ice water of which I drank and talked about how good it was, then sat it in the middle of the table. I asked them if they were thirsty and told them that I had water for them, but they had to come over to me and ask me for it. One by one they both came over and I gave them a drink.

Then we talked about how they were so thirsty that they came to me and asked me for a drink and I gave them water. We talked about how everything living needs water. Without water it will die, just like the plant that we had a few lessons back. We've forgotten to water it and now it's dead! We talked about how the inside part of us, is called our spirit. When our spirit gets thirsty we have to go to Jesus and ask him for special water called "LIVING WATER"! Jesus will give our spirit what it needs to live if we ask him! So our body drinks water in order to live, but Jesus gives our spirit LIVING WATER!

January 4, 2010: Octopus: "Even the octopus praises the Lord"

WHO IS READY FOR SCHOOL???!!!!

The girls were SO excited to get back to school today! I too was glad to finally get back on schedule and get everyone back to normal!

We started out today with a little Math. We are on day 30 of school today so we counted from 1-30. We traced the number 30,we counted by 10's to 30, and we also added up all our sticks to get 10! Even E~ can count to 15 now!!

The girls worked a lot on their handwriting today, S~ worked on tracing shapes while A~ worked on reading and writing the letter "O" and number 9. Even E~ had a blast stacking her blocks!

Then we refreshed our memories about the Octopus and how they have 8 legs, and 4 hearts, and have suction cups at the end of their legs and that is how they taste things! Then we tried to memorize that "Even the octopus praises the Lord" by praising the Lord ourselves!

We talked about how the octopus lives in the ocean! So I printed out some maps of the world off crayola.com and we compared our maps to the globe we had. I told them the name of each continent one by one and they colored them all green (for land). Then we found each of them on the globe. And then talked about how there was more ocean than land!

As we walked our way through the globe the girls started screaming and giggling shouting "Mommy look....that's where Aunt GIGI lives!!!" as they pointed to the island of Hawaii! It was nice to know they listen to what I teach them!

Then we finished coloring the rest of our maps Blue to represent the oceans!

Then when we were all done with our maps, we talked about what a Missionary was. I told them how some countries are not free to worship Jesus like we are. Some countries want to kill people who worship God, so it's our job to pray for those missionaries who go to other countries to share the good news! We talked about Afghanistan, and how there was war there. And then we prayed together for the churches in Afghanistan and the missionaries there that they would be safe and get the word out to those who need to hear it!

What a great day of school! Even though it was a little hard to get motivated this morning, I'm so glad we did it and we had a great time! Looking forward to tomorrow!!
