April 13, 2011: ELEPHANT "I will remember what God has done for me."

We started today with some handwriting. A~ practiced her E's while S~ traced a bit in her pre-school book.

Then we learned about the saying "An Elephant never forgets" we talked about how we should never forget all the wonderful things that God has done for us! So thought long and hard about things that we've asked God to do for us and made a list of all the things that God did for us. A~ Remembered a time in the car when it was pouring down rain and she prayed that God would make it stop raining and He did! S~ Remembered a couple times that she had boo boo's and prayed that God would heal them and He did! A~ remembered the time when she prayed and asked God to put a baby in mommy's belly, and he did! S~ remembered the time when we lost our dog Sammy and we all prayed that God would let us find him, and papaw showed up at our door with him! And A~ Remembered how she kept having bad dreams and we prayed they would go away and they have!!

Then we had to pray and thank God for all these wonderful things he did for us! They both were very eager to pray as you can see!!

Then we learned about the Elephant, and how it is the biggest animal that walks the earth. They have big ears, but cannot hear very well, and little eyes and cannot see very well. The softest spot on their body is the backs of their ears, and they have tusks made from ivory.

And when we were all done for the day, A~ says "mom I want to do more school!" So I broke out our Hooked on Phonics that we bought last year and thought we'd give it a try! She loved it and already got through the first reading book all by herself! Hopefully we can keep it up the rest of the year and she will be reading books all by herself in no time!!

Week of April 11, 2011: HORSE "I obey right away."

We had an awesome day in school today! My 3 year old S~ is coming along beautifully, and surprised me today! She has been working so hard on recognizing her ABC's this year. We had a rough go at it in the beginning with her only recognizing 12 of them, but she knows them all but 2 of them, which she gets confused "V" & "Y". I'm so thrilled with her progress!

We also opened up her Big Preschool workbook to a new section today! She looked at the pictures and picked out which letter started the word. She did fantastic, I was super impressed!

A~ my 5 year old also worked on her long list of words for this week, she reads each of them by herself out loud then I ask her to circle or put an X over certain words, then she has to find which words I say. And again she did fantastic!

Then we learned all about "Horses". We learned that a LONG time ago we didn't have cars! Instead people used covered wagons drawn by horse in order to travel. We learned that a well trained horse obeys right away, just as God wants us to obey right away! We learned the verse Collossians 3:20 "Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord." Then we ended our lesson with the movie "Black Stallion"

Week of April 4, 2011: COW "God's Word helps me grow"

This week we did the letter "C". We counted up to 42 and A~ read her first full sentences.

We also took a field trip to Maymont. We had a picnic and then walked through the petting Zoo. We learned about "Cows" before we went. We learned that Cows can smell up to 5 miles away, they have 4 stomachs, and they chew their cud for over 8 hours a day!! We talked about what foods we get from cows like, milk, yogurt, cheese, and butter. Then at our picnic we got to taste some of those foods! We learned how good for us milk was and how the bible is like milk for our souls. We can nourish our spirits with spending time with God daily, and it helps us to grow!

March 28, 2011: INSECT "I am a wise child, so I work hard."

So we started out our lesson today with the letter "I". I is for insect, igloo, itch, inch, and inch-worm. We colored our I books and cut them out.

Then we practiced tracing and writing the letter "I" and "i" and S~ Colored pictures while A~ finished her handwriting.

Then we did a review of all the letters we've covered so far. We played the game "touch the letter that starts the word....."

Then a few weeks ago we received our ants in the mail for our ant farm. We set up the farm by putting sand in the back of it. The sand was solid with no tunnels as you can see, then poured in the ants. We fed them two drops of water, and a little piece of fruit every 3 days. We had 50 worker ants. Over the course of 4 weeks or so they all gradually died, but they left us something amazing to remember them by.

So today as we learned about "Insects" we took a look at our ants. Even though they were all gone now, we learned about how hard ants worked and we took a look at all the tunnels they worked so hard to make in the sand. We learned that ants only live about 45-60 days, they have two stomaches: 1 for eating, and 1 for storing food to share with friends. Each colony of ants has a Queen and her job is to lay eggs. They use their antennae to touch, and smell things, and they can hold 20x their body weight.

Then we learned about the "insect predator" The Lady Bug. We learned that the lady bug eats harmful insects that destroy plants. So then we did a little bit of finger painting and made our own lady bugs!

January 16, 2011: GOAT "Jesus died for my sins"

So I'm WAY behind on posting this one. And on school. We've taken like a month in a half break but we are back at it!! Here are some photos from our GOAT lesson so you can catch up!

January 12, 2011: WATER "Jesus gives my spirit living water to drink"

Today we started out with our ABC song, and then our sound song...."a-a- apple, b-b-butterly...etc"

Then A~ did her english lesson. We cut out the words Dad, Dads, mom, and moms and learned that mom = 1 mom and moms = more than 1 mom. While A~ did that S~ worked on the ABC puzzle.

Then we continued our lesson about "Water" we talked about how Water when it is a liquid, has no shape of it's own. If it is poured into different containers the water becomes the shape of the container it is in! Then we took a few pennies and talked about how they were round and solid. If they are poured into a square container they stay round.

So then we poured the water in a pan and let it heat up on the stove and watched it turn into gas!

January 11, 2011: WATER: "Jesus gives my spirit living water to drink."

Today we learned about the letter "W" for Water. A~ practiced writing the letter "W" and "w" and the number "10".

While A~ did that mommy & S~ played the ABC game where she tells me what the letters are. Then the ones she still can't recognize we use the leapfrog for.

A~ did her English lesson, and was able to sound out and read all the words on her worksheet! Then I would say "Circle the word TOM, or underline the word DAD" and she would find the word that way.

Then we played the game "touch the letter that starts the word....November, wait, October" etc... This was to review the letters that we've already learned this school year.

So then we started our lesson on "WATER" I gave each of the girls 3 crackers and told them to eat up. I then made a huge cup of ice water of which I drank and talked about how good it was, then sat it in the middle of the table. I asked them if they were thirsty and told them that I had water for them, but they had to come over to me and ask me for it. One by one they both came over and I gave them a drink.

Then we talked about how they were so thirsty that they came to me and asked me for a drink and I gave them water. We talked about how everything living needs water. Without water it will die, just like the plant that we had a few lessons back. We've forgotten to water it and now it's dead! We talked about how the inside part of us, is called our spirit. When our spirit gets thirsty we have to go to Jesus and ask him for special water called "LIVING WATER"! Jesus will give our spirit what it needs to live if we ask him! So our body drinks water in order to live, but Jesus gives our spirit LIVING WATER!
