July 22, 2010 Creation Day 4

Today was Creation Day 4 we did #4 on our letter chart and made page 4 in our Creation Booklet. Today God created the Sun, Moon & Stars!

July 21, 2010 Creation Day 3

Today we did a few things a little different in order to break school up a bit. My little -S is getting bored with trying to recgonize her ABC's with the flash cards and the "Signing time videos" so today I had her go to "starfall.com" and practice on there. She LOVED it! Even -A had a blast with it! After that she did watch the ABC signing time video but fell asleep during it.

For school today we learned about how on the 3rd day God seperated the water & sky from the land and made the trees and flowers. We did our #3 for our number chart, and our 3rd page in our creation booklets.

We also learned about the letters E & F. -S got to do the textured ABC puzzle today.

Even baby -E had a blast in her chair stacking blocks and knocking them over. She is already following along with the ABC song and can pick out several sounds along the way! Looking forward to day 4!

July 20, 2010 Creation Day 2

Today we talked about the second day of Creation when God made the Sky and the Waters. We talked about the number 2 and colored and glued the number 2 to our number chart. We also made page 2 of our creation booklet where it shows God separated the waters to make the sky and the water.

We talked about the letters C&D today. We did pretty much the same things as yesterday but with a different letter and number. The girls did very well today! Even Baby -E got in on the coloring action today!!

1st Day of School July 19, 2010

-S starting the day off with Prayer

We started school really early this year! My plan was to start in August instead of September this year however with our Mini-Cooper #4 being due September 13th, and after some advice from other homeschooling mom's, I decided to start now even earlier in order to establish some normalcy before the baby comes! I was nervous we'd start have about two weeks in and the baby would come early since I've been known not to go to my due dates.

This year I've been studying about the "Charlot Mason" style schooling. Pretty much where you teach your kids the same things at the same time no matter the age. And then I focus on the things that each individual child needs to focus on for their age and learning abilities.

So this year we're doing Kindergarten for -A (my 4 year old) we're using the "My Father's World" for the K- Curriculum. A lot of what they are teaching with the curriculum are also things -S (my 3 year old) can also learn. There are things that are more advanced for a 3 year old however those things I just let -A do and then I work on more simple things with -S during those times. Like today I know -A is already pretty advanced with her alphabet so she did an alphabet puzzle while -S and I did flash cards and named the letters. We put the letters she knew in one pile and the ones she wasn't sure of in another so we can work on them later, and then finished off with her watching the "ABC Signing time" video. -S also colored pictures for the letter A & B, while -A (since she did that last year)worked with the ABC cards and put buttons on top of all the A's and B's on the cards.

My main reason for choosing the "My Fathers World" Curriculum this year was because it has great character training qualities, as well as it is able to incorporate GOD into every subject we talk about. For instance for the next 10 days we are going to learn about "Creation." Today we talked about Genesis 1:1-5 how God separated darkness from light and this was day 1 of creation! In that small lesson we were able to learn about God, learn what he created on the 1st day, learn about the number 1. We made a number chart with the number 1 for day 1, we also made page 1 of our "creation book."

Once we finished our lesson for the day we worked on memorizing 1 bible verse, and then did a few worksheets. -S worked on learning to trace, and -A worked on writing her letters.

Overall it was a great start to a good year! -E (my 1 year old)walked around most of the time and played with blocks and watched a "signing time" video while we worked. We'll start working with her soon on coloring and not eating the crayons, lol. Looking forward to tomorrow and learning about Creation Day 2!
