January 4, 2010: Octopus: "Even the octopus praises the Lord"

WHO IS READY FOR SCHOOL???!!!!

The girls were SO excited to get back to school today! I too was glad to finally get back on schedule and get everyone back to normal!

We started out today with a little Math. We are on day 30 of school today so we counted from 1-30. We traced the number 30,we counted by 10's to 30, and we also added up all our sticks to get 10! Even E~ can count to 15 now!!

The girls worked a lot on their handwriting today, S~ worked on tracing shapes while A~ worked on reading and writing the letter "O" and number 9. Even E~ had a blast stacking her blocks!

Then we refreshed our memories about the Octopus and how they have 8 legs, and 4 hearts, and have suction cups at the end of their legs and that is how they taste things! Then we tried to memorize that "Even the octopus praises the Lord" by praising the Lord ourselves!

We talked about how the octopus lives in the ocean! So I printed out some maps of the world off crayola.com and we compared our maps to the globe we had. I told them the name of each continent one by one and they colored them all green (for land). Then we found each of them on the globe. And then talked about how there was more ocean than land!

As we walked our way through the globe the girls started screaming and giggling shouting "Mommy look....that's where Aunt GIGI lives!!!" as they pointed to the island of Hawaii! It was nice to know they listen to what I teach them!

Then we finished coloring the rest of our maps Blue to represent the oceans!

Then when we were all done with our maps, we talked about what a Missionary was. I told them how some countries are not free to worship Jesus like we are. Some countries want to kill people who worship God, so it's our job to pray for those missionaries who go to other countries to share the good news! We talked about Afghanistan, and how there was war there. And then we prayed together for the churches in Afghanistan and the missionaries there that they would be safe and get the word out to those who need to hear it!

What a great day of school! Even though it was a little hard to get motivated this morning, I'm so glad we did it and we had a great time! Looking forward to tomorrow!!
